Re: [-empyre-] original form
Hi Mike,
"What kind of interaction occurred between the two parties to generate
the 'first piece ever' in what became a remarkable series?"
It was 1999, and Kim Machan was organizing the first Multimedia Art Asia
Pacific (MAAP) Net art residency in Brisbane for four artists. Young-hae
went alone, because, believe it or not, when we applied, we didn't think it
wise at the time to risk suggesting that two people who were completely
unknown to the new media art world should both deserve to participate. We
were completely ignorant of the new media art collectives that were out
there at the time.
Kim Machan, crazy as she is, chose "Young-hae Chang" on the merits of an
application in which we stated that we knew nothing about new media art and
Net art.
A couple of months before Young-hae went to Brisbane, we received a suite of
Macromedia software from MAAP. It was all daunting, especially Director, but
Flash seemed the most promising. We loaded it into a PowerBook (but didn't
use it).
We prepared the text of ARTIST'S STATEMENT N0. 45,730,944: THE PERFECT
ARTISTIC WEB SITE in Seoul, but didn't have the know how to put it into
Flash. Once in Brisbane, Young-hae, with the help of the MAAP tech team,
especially Jeff Sams, turned it into the forebear of this:

Attention: New version soon!
